Case Study : Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
When AMD needed a flexible partner who could support unique manufacturing and supply requirements, Bantam delivered a custom product supply and servicing program that continues to produce beyond expectations.
The Challenge:
AMD (NYSE: AMD), a global supplier of innovative PC microprocessors, used a highly specific computer for their internal desktop systems-which included a custom system configuration and the use of a specific AMD-manufactured processor. Quality, stability, and instant inventory availability was a must-as downtime could quickly translate into costly slippage on critical projects. Because of the specialized configuration, AMD also needed to maintain exclusive control over the end product. A partner that could support their unique requirements was a must.
The Solution:
Bantam developed a manufacturing and product supply program that enabled the computers to be quickly built and tested to exact AMD specs, and then stocked at the Bantam warehouse under a Just-In-Time inventory solution for same day/next day delivery. To address warranty service, Bantam supplied onsite technical support, which could be dispatched within an hour of a trouble call.
The Outcome:
Working with Bantam, AMD was able to significantly reduce delivery time and decrease manufacturing and inventory costs.
A Quick Update:
For AMD's current internal desktop systems, Bantam made recommendations that significantly improved the platform's stability and performance. The result has been 'virtually zero downtime'-which directly translates into higher overall design productivity and lower system maintenance costs.
